Chelsey
Flood was recruited as Falmouth Cultivator because of her knowledge
of the local arts and cultural scene. Through her initial assessment
she identified a need at Bosvale Community Centre.
The young people
attending were uninspired and just hung around the space being bored.
On top of that, the youth centre was only able to open every two
weeks. After building up a relationship with a group of young people
at the centre Chelsey linked in with local voluntary organisations to
ensure that the youth centre could open weekly. The group identified
activities they might want to try, including fashion workshops and
radio production by tying in with local practitioners willing to come
to the centre and run sessions. But it was break dancing that got
them really excited. When they realised they were most interested in
busting moves, Chelsey was able to help the young people link up with
The Works and get professional dancers in to run a workshop. This was
followed with a trip to the Barbican Theatre in
Plymouth to see the professional dancers in action. The Bosvale Youth
Centre continues to open every week and the young people have put in
a bid to Our Money Your Dream to get a regular break dance workshop
and group running at the youth club. |
