Downderry Cultivate meeting 11th June

We held our third and final gathering at Seaton Beach Café to fix our plans for the Cultivate activity at Downderry and Seaton.

We welcomed Max Hepworth-Povey from Chew TV and Stuart Taylor from the Graffiti Workshop. Max explained a lot more about what Chew TV could do and how young people could make a film with the help of his organisation and get it onto the Chew TV website.

Stuart gave a good start to the graffiti work which is always popular with young people here and everyone made the most of the opportunity of having someone with the expertise of Stuart around.

The big decision was to hold an event in early September - on Sunday September the 7th - at Seaton and raise money to start a club for young people based at The Seaton Beach café during the winter months. This is a popular choice and many people were pleased that, after lots of consultation and talk, we were able to get some really firm plans together and see the Cultivate activities come to a positive result.

We will be staging a tented show that day and have asked that anyone who wants to perform should contact Rick Worthy and we will work out a programme of events for the day. Andy Liddicoat teaches music to quite few young people in the area and has offered to accompany performances for the event. We hope to raise enough money to get this new club off the ground and so give a positive lead to activities in the Downderry area.

The leading choice of name for this new club at the moment is "The Radical Movement Club". Let's hope that with a bit of support from the local community and the Cultivate team that this will flourish .

Thanks again to all those who have contributed to this new intiative.
